Breaking a Sweat for Our Community: Dow AgroSciences at Pogue's Run

Submitted July 19, 2010 by Mark Neterer | 0 comments

I like a change of scenery sometimes, especially a change that involves being outside on warm summer days. My colleagues and I enjoyed some beautiful scenery on July 15, as a team of Dow AgroSciences Turf and Ornamental sales representatives worked alongside KIB at Pogue’s Run Park on Indy’s east side. Our group gathered that afternoon to manage vegetation on the property and help restore its natural landscape so that the community can enjoy this picturesque spot in the city. Sales reps from around the country took a time-out from a training conference for a great afternoon of “hack and haul” — cutting down invasive honeysuckle trees, carrying away the debris, and treating the stumps so the trees don’t grow back.

I think our whole team walked away sweaty, but also satisfied, because our hours at Pogue’s Run had deeper significance than simply manual labor. Volunteering at the park is directly in line with Dow AgroSciences’ commitment to community service.

The Dow AgroSciences sales team has a strong interest and desire to give back to the communities where we live. We feel very fortunate, especially in these tough economic times, to be part of a successful business that cares about improving the living environment in our neighborhoods. With good management of grass and desired plants, we can strengthen our air quality, minimize threats from insects, and reduce the possibility of contact with weeds like poison ivy. The Pogue’s Run project was a great opportunity to be an active and visible symbol of the power of serving our communities by managing and protecting the natural environment!

By experiencing how important this effort is to our Indy area neighbors, our team members are more likely to be excited about community clean up projects as they return to their hometowns across the country.

Additionally, our company takes great pride in providing products that help improve the overall quality of green space in our communities, such as the Milestone® VM and Garlon® 3A specialty herbicides we used to treat the honeysuckle stumps.

Thanks to KIB for partnering with Dow AgroSciences to use our team’s skills and our company’s products to positively change the Indianapolis community. I hope everyone is inspired to work up a little sweat in the effort to beautify the area where you live!
