Beauty is possibility

A dilapidated building is potential for greatness. An abandoned overgrown field is full of possibilities. The ugly duckling grew into a swan. The important thing to note is that the beauty was not just in the swan’s looks, it was strongly apparent in the potential within the ugly duckling.
Beauty is possibility. It is potential and opportunity. It is what is not great, but could be. There is no greater pleasure than anticipation. Beauty is in what could be.
I think the next time someone asks me about my life; I should tell them that it’s beautiful. I’m at a unique position as a fresh-faced college graduate, where I have nothing but possibilities ahead of me. It’s fantastic and terrifying and completely beautiful in its potential.
I’ve had a life full of beauty growing up in and around Indianapolis. I have been surprised time and time again by what wonderful opportunities and individuals I have encountered and the unexpected quality of all of them. I love anticipating what could happen next; it’s a beautiful feeling and it’s made even more wonderful by what actually has happened. I have seen a community that cares deeply for one another. A community that works together to improve each others’ lives. They plant trees and build parks, they give up a little time to help someone in need, and sometimes they just talk to each other, lending smiles to provide hope, and of course, beauty, when someone doesn’t think they have any.
As I close the chapter of my childhood and move out of my home state for the first time, embarking on something beautiful in its possibilities, I am comforted by the fact that the people of Indianapolis are kind and driven; they aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. And I trust that they will keep my city beautiful and never doubt the potential it has around every corner.
