DONOR SPOTLIGHT: OCTOBER 2011
The Wood Family
Congratulations to the Wood family for being the 'donors of the month,' and thank you to Margaret Wood for answering our questions!
Tell us a little about yourself.
- First and foremost I’m a wife to Barry and a mother to Michael, a sophomore at North Central HS
- ’m a CPA and the CFO for Arbor Homes
- Live in the Nora area by the Monon Trail – love it!
- Fully entrenched with our church (St Luke’s United Methodist) – governing board member, lay leadership committee member, usher, and most recently part of the transition team which undertook the search process for our new senior pastor
- Pet causes – supporting local charities doing great things: KIB, Second Helpings, School on Wheels
- Hobbies – Purdue sports, reading, sewing, golf, riding bikes, Michael’s sports
Why did you first support KIB?
I learned about KIB from its past president, Greg Fennig, and its past board chair, Ben Wilhelm. The three of us were in the Stanley K Lacey Executive Leadership program together. When they spoke of KIB and what it was doing, my ears perked up. We made our first donation to support this local mission in which friends we admired were deeply engaged and committed.
Do you have a favorite KIB experience or memory?
While I loved the years I served on the board (because staff and board members were/are the best I’ve ever worked with), my favorite KIB experience happened this past spring. My company, Arbor Homes, worked with KIB doing a day of service at the Paramount School of Excellence. The work was so rewarding, the school and kids were amazing, and KIB made it so simple for 40 people to show up and accomplish something!
What keeps you involved?
It starts with a love for our City of Indianapolis. KIB does such wonderful work within our city. And the staff and board are some of the best, most committed people I’ve ever known.
Do you have a favorite place in the city?
Just one?! OK, I would say I love the White River Park areas with the walkways, the zoo, the opportunities to rent bikes, Segways, and peddle boats…we’ve done ‘em all!
