Director’s Assistant/Project Planner
Partners in the Environment (PIE)
Program Description and Objectives:
-
To provide opportunities for students to learn about challenges and
stewardship of the urban environment
-
To engage students, teachers, volunteers, corporate partners in
curriculum-based education and beautification efforts.
-
On one work day, students, teachers and volunteers will transform the
school grounds of a chosen school into an outdoor classroom. This spring
chosen school: The Southeast Neighborhood School of Excellence (SENSE) and
the 21st Century Charter School in Fountain Square.
Intern will function as an important team member under the direction of
the Director of Educational Initiatives. S/he will work with Director to
plan, prepare and implement various outdoor classroom projects with
schools. Each day may bring a different urgency or task. Intern must be
flexible and able to work under various forms of pressure. Intern will
divide time between office and outdoor work, will work with children and
will move from task to task easily. Each day will be different.
Intern may also assist Director of Educational Initiatives with other
education-related projects (i.e. After School Gardening programs, Spring
Garden clinic, etc.)
20-25 hours per week.
Some desired qualities: detail-oriented, able to work independently,
willingness to work outdoors and with children, able to see the big
picture and creative. Knowledge of plant materials or construction is a
bonus.

horticulture, landscape architecture, forestry, biology, environmental
studies, program management, event planning
