Mapping KIB program impact in Indianapolis

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful Impact Maps

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful’s Impact Maps are community resources to help Indianapolis residents visualize community projects and where there is still more work to be done. KIB will use mapping to manage data for project planning, project maintenance, survival tracking, and program activity. Neighborhoods can use the planning map to develop project applications or plan with KIB staff.

Using an advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) provides in-depth data to guide Keep Indianapolis Beautiful’s beautification and greening efforts. As KIB continues to develop and integrate the capabilities of our maps, more features will be available for the public to interact with, allowing residents to see the impact their support of KIB programing has on the health and wellbeing of Indianapolis’ residents and natural world.

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful developed the Tree Canopy Planner through generous funding from the Efroymson Family Fund to track, plan, and share the collective impact of progress toward a cleaner, greener, capable, more beautiful city.

Trees and forests in the greater Indianapolis region provide a wide array of social, economic, and environmental benefits to the community. Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) has recently completed an assessment showing that Marion County has 33% tree canopy cover. KIB has developed this online map – known as the Tree Canopy Hot Spot Tool – to View, Plan, and Grow the region’s urban forest. This tool makes the canopy assessment data accessible to anyone and will help KIB and our partners to proactively focus on priority areas where together we can make the greater difference.

KIB developed the Tree Canopy Planner using advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) collected in partnership withLIDAR data, processed by the University of Vermont Spatial Analysis Lab (UVMSAL). The Tree Canopy Planner provides in-depth data to guide KIB’s tree planting, tree maintenance, and stormwater mitigation efforts. The mapping project was completed through generous funding from the Efroymson Family Fund, a CICF Fund to track, plan, and share the collective impact of progress toward a cleaner, greener, capable, more beautiful city.

Neighbors keep their block clean of litter on an on-going basis, and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful provides them with tools and resources to help in their efforts.
